Letter 10: Someone you don’t talk to as much as you’d like to

Hi Blog,

Didn’t think you’d be the topic of my next letter, did ya? I’ve got some news. You know about what happened to Japan recently? It’s tragic, really. What’s disgusting is how some Americans are reacting to it.

They’re saying how the earthquake was payback for pearl harbour.

I don’t think their brain is capable of operating on anything except the most animalistic level. Seeing how the reluctance in containing their overflowing pride is typically displayed, I don’t suppose a newly found maturity is in their near future.

Me: Did Japan attack Pearl Harbour again?
Friend: nooo, why?
Me: Cuz god just nuked it….

Blog, the American’s seemed to forget about Hiroshima and Nagasaki, which happened after Pearl Harbour. While those were controlled events, earthquakes, tsunamis, etc all can’t be helped. There’s no connection. Not only that, but some comments use God’s name to carry out their messages. Just shows some people are willing to pull things out of their ass to justify any fixed perspective towards a nation they abhor.

On a lighter note, there’s news about a Miracle of the baby girl plucked from the rubble: Four-month-old reunited with her father after incredible rescue.

That’s it for now, how are things on your end, blog? (Har har)

From your creator.

Happy Mother’s Day!

May 10, 2010 2 comments

Yesterday was my mother’s birthday. It also happened to be Mother’s Day!

So HAPPY HAPPY birthday and mother’s day!! I was out with the family yesterday so didn’t have time to make a post. Thanks for everything mom!

Warning: Previous post isn’t as pleasant.

Post-Olympic Withdrawal

Due to all the Olympic hype, I haven’t had the time to post anything lately. Olympic winter games came to Vancouver this year so the night life downtown was lively. People were hugging, chanting, cheering, singing, high-fiving each other everywhere. Last Sunday was the last day of Olympics. Also, the hockey teams, Canada and America, were playing for gold at noon.

I had an appointment with a client at 10:30, so in order to finish on time for the game I’d have to get there early. At 10:00 I urged the driver, enticing her to consider stop signs optional. She dutifully speeds as if she were rushing a fully dilated woman to the hospital. Tires squeal. The brakes squeal. The driver squeals. Rules of the road be damned, the game is going to start!

I get to work with moments to spare before my client arrives. An hour passes, and she’s out! Considering my job, that lady’s amputated limbs wouldn’t have gone in vain. Fast forward to the moment Crosby shoots the winning goal and we claim gold!

Anyway after work I head downtown. Wasn’t planning to go, but a friend wanted to one last time before it ended. Caught a light show, some rappers, Shane Koyczan, the coke place on yaletown, and many other things on the road. For those who don’t know, this is Shane:

He performed Atlantis downtown and made an appearance at the opening ceremony. Anyway, Olympics are over and now you’d get weird looks if you hugged, chanted, cheered, sang, or high-fived any stranger on the streets. It was good while it lasted!

Shows galore!

February 20, 2010 1 comment

So on the 17th I went to a free concert show with Bend Sinister and Hot Hot Heat at Holland Park. I’ve never heard of HHH before, but I’ve seen Bend Sinister along with other local artists when I went to the Rio Theatre to watch another live performance the previous week. Anyway, the crowd in the front-middle was insane. Being there was like being in a game of tug o’ war, but with pushing instead of pulling. Losers fall over, but in that case everyone’s a loser because the fall causes a domino effect. I got pushed into it. And I lost my shoe. Twice. Hah! But it’s all good. We got out of there eventually.

Meet Bend Sinister. They’re pretty good.

The next day there was another movie we caught. The Couples Retreat. After dinner with some old friends from high school who I barely see, we decided to rent a movie. Couldn’t decide on which movie so the worker made a not-so-great suggestion where we not-so-smartly agreed to seeing. It was a bad chick flick, I fought to pay attention.

Then yesterday we decided to watch Shutter Island.
Leonardo DiCaprio’s an excellent actor. It was a psychological thriller.

And today I’ll be watching How I Met Your Mother.

Happy Chinese/Vietnamese New Year!

Oh, and Valentines too.

I have exactly 4 minutes to post this before the day is over.
So here it is:
Xin Nian Kuai Le, 新年快乐!
Chuc Mung Nam Moi!

So what did I do today? Worked at the salon and spent the rest of the day at an old family friend’s place.

That’s it for today!
