An alternative blueprint for holy conviction

Steps to creating your own God:

1. You need a book. The almighty creator of the Universe always has “a book”. This should contain the ideology of your religion. Also, make sure you get it right the first time, you’re really not supposed to amend it later.

Mass Media and Popular Culture (2nd Edition)

2. You need a good name for your god. Monotheism is in right now, so the singular is more convincing. People immediately know who you are when you mention Allah, Yaweh, Odin, Thor etc. You need something that is equally distinguishable.

Media

3. Make sure your religion contains a list of DOs and DON’Ts. People like to be told what to do. A list of 10 is pretty smart, but that’s already been taken, so you might want to try a different number. Make sure you also give your people a lot of morally ambiguous, metaphorical tales to follow. This way they can be applied to virtually any situation, giving them the appearance of timelessness.

Follow these rules and you shall be forever accepted in the human world for all eternity.. as long as you live. As people, we are to assimilate into a world where only beauty awaits. And no, beauty is neither within the eye of the beholder nor beer holder. It’s within the eyes of Media. It’s everywhere and all-knowing. You are to be in the right physical and/or mental shape. Otherwise, you suffer a psychological hell on earth.

4. And, most importantly, you need some miracles or fulfilled prophesies to give your religion some validity. How you accomplish this is up to you. This will probably be the hardest part, because if you don’t record them on digital media, people will probably want proof. And if you do, skeptics will probably cry “Photoshop”! —>

This would be known as the project of the devil to some, but the product of artwork to others. To be accepted is to be “beautiful” is to be the best of what you are is to be the contrary of conformity is to be “ugly” is to be you and proud of it. To be faithful in what this “religion” has to offer is to pass this contradictory test. Be your own star.

(I found this document I wrote when I was 15/16. It’s so old, can’t believe I still have it.)

I like! Hmm so this is what you spend most of your spare time on.

My spare time lately consists of reading and sleeping. Speaking of sleep, I’ll probably end up transferring the dreams here instead. You still keeping track of your dreams?

Yea I’m done my 5. Would you like them? Oh I kind of painted that canvas with out you -_- hope you don’t mind. What have you been reading? I have up on philosophy, well the book that I had been reading. I’m reading another book by the author of the kite runner. Switching back and forth between that and the secret.

Yes, I’m finished my 5. Would you like them? I kind of painted that canvas with out you -_- hope you don’t mind. What have you been reading? Right now I am more into my piano books and music than any actual literature. I’ve been really feeling the Beatles lately. I can play “let it be” now, care to sing along?

Sure let’s see ’em! No problem, what did you paint? Reading the works of Nietzsche.

Idk if my replies are being posted. I have always wanted to read his stuff, how is it so far? Mind boggling? The painting looks like chicken scratch, mind you I wasn’t trying, plus I was on a time clock and under the influence. But I might buy another before my trip to Vietnam this summer.

It’s interesting. He’s brilliant. If you like you can borrow it after I finish reading it. Cool, if you do do another one I want to see it. You’re leaving in May for a pretty long time right?

Yes backpacking in Vietnam for a few months, come back here for a few weeks and then go to china. Would you like to be on the emailing list? Vietnam is such a naturally beautiful country. Drr, I thought you wanted to help paint a canvas? You probably have more artistic talent oozing out of your left pinky than I do in my whole talent. My art is music, but painting, not so much. Its more therapeutic. Reminds me how I felt at a certain time. I would really like it if I could borrow the book after you are finished.

Wow so much traveling. Emailing list? Send me the link. I don’t know how Vietnam’s like now, it’s been 12 years since I last visited. Nah I haven’t painted anything since grade 8. Sure thing, I’ll lend it to you after I’m done.

I will try to email people back home on a regular basis. I think I have your email so ill add you on there. Do you know when you’ll be going sky diving? I don’t want to miss it. I will be back briefly before I leave for china. Hopefully you guys go around that time. Sweet, I look forward to reading your book. Is it okay if it travels to Vietnam?

Not sure when we’re doing it yet, let us know when you’ll be back ahead of time and we’ll try to make it during that time. And that’s no problem.

I will try to be back in the latter half of July. I booked a one way flight, so we’ll see. I won’t leave for china until mid August for sure. Does that help any?
